Kolkata Municipal Corporation has mandated all city shops and establishments to display Bengali at the top of sign boards by September 30, warning of penalties for non compliance. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has said in its notification that the city’s business and commercial establishments have to display sign boards prominently in Bengali, placing the state’s official language at the top of all the sign boards.

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has notified the Apprenticeship (Amendment) Rules, 2025. The amendments to the earlier Apprenticeship Rules, 1992 are aimed at expanding inclusion, formalizing “degree apprenticeship” models, and enhancing stipend norms. These rules come into effect from 11th September 2025, the date of their official publication.

Under Section 51E of the ESI Act, accidents during to and fro travel from residence to office are covered under ESI Benefits if job related. These accidents are now classified as employment injuries thereby making the employee (or their dependents) eligible for compensation and legal protection even if the accident occurs outside the office premises. The Maharashtra Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2017 applied to the establishments employing 10 or more workers and for less than 10 workers, it was required to give an intimation of having commenced the business to the Facilitator in whose jurisdiction the establishment is located by submitting an online application in the prescribed form together with such self declaration and self certified documents containing details such as the name of the employer and manager, name of the establishment, nature of the business, number of workers, and such other details as may be prescribed.

The POSH Act was enacted to protect women from sexual harassment and to provide a safe and secure work environment. The Supreme Court formulated guidelines making it mandatory for Organizations , whether working in the public or private sector to establish a mechanism to redress complaints of sexual harassment.

As of March 2025, around 27,000 cases were pending in various courts.
