New Delhi, Oct 25 (PTI) In August this year, 13.22 lakh new members joined the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation’s (ESIC) social security scheme.

In the month of July 2021, about 13.33 lakh members had joined this scheme. This information was given in the official data released on Monday, which broadly shows the employment situation in the organized sector of the country.

The latest figures are part of the National Statistical Office (NSO) report.

According to the latest data, in aggregate,

· 10.74 lakh new members were added to the ESIC scheme in April this year,

· 8.88 lakh in May,

· 10.62 lakh in June

· 13.33 lakh in July, and

· 13.22 lakh in August

Data for June and July show that the number of members joining the schemes has increased since the relaxation of restrictions imposed at the state level to prevent the second wave of the corona virus epidemic.

The second wave of the Kovid epidemic came in mid-April this year. After that the states imposed ‘lockdown’ to prevent the epidemic.

According to the NSO report, the total number of new subscribers joining ESIC schemes in

· 2020-21 was 1.15 crore,

· 1.51 crore in 2019-20 and

· 1.49 crore in 2018-19.

About 83.35 lakh new subscribers joined the ESIC scheme during September, 2017 to March, 2018.

According to the report, the number of members joining ESIC during September 2017 to July 2021 stood at 5.56 crore.

The NSO report is based on the data of new subscribers joining the schemes of ESIC, Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) and Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA).
