Maharashtra government has declared a public holiday in the state on Monday, i.e. February 7.   Schools, colleges and offices to remain closed

  • West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee notified that the state government will observe half-day holiday tomorrow
  • Goa government has declared three days State Mourning, from February 6 to February 8
  • Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Sikkim have announced two days of State Mourning. 

What’s shut and what’s open?

All schools, colleges, and government offices will remain shut due to the public holiday while private offices will remain open. 

The Central government has already announced a two-day national mourning and the National Flag will fly at half-mast as a mark of respect to Lata Mangeshkar. 

In order to pay homage to this great singer, a public holiday is being declared in the state on Monday February 7, as a sad day by exercising the powers vested in the Government of Maharashtra under Section 25 of the Parakramya Sanlekh Act, 1881 (Act 26 of 1981)
