Union Minister for Labour and Employment Bhupender Yadav on Friday (8 October) informed that more than 3 crore unorganized workers have registered themselves on the E-shram portal.

The E-Shram portal has been developed by the government for creating a National Database of Unorganized Workers (NDUW) in the country.

In a tweet on Friday (8 October), Yadav said that the portal will help the workers in the unorganized sectors to get the benefits of the government’s various schemes.

Earlier on Friday, in the 177th Governing Body Meeting and 78th Annual General Body meeting of the Dattopant Thengadi National Board for Workers Education and Development, chief labour commissioner (central) D P S Negi said, “Earlier, we did not have any means to provide benefits to unorganized workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, since we did not have data on them. But now, the e-Shram Card will serve as a single card to avail government benefits across the country, it will be One Nation One Card”.

According to a Ministry of Labour statement, Negi also asked the Board to include the details about registering on the e-Shram portal and disseminate the benefits of registering at the portal to the unorganized workers in the country.

The government of India has announced the launch of a new web portal titled E-Shram NDUW, which collects data on labourers, migrants, gig-workers and platform workers, traders and street vendors, farmers, and domestic workers.

All workers are given a Sarkari Yojana card that is universal. UAN, or Universal Account Number, will be on the shram card. With this single card, you can take advantage of thousands of government benefits

In another important development, benefitting 10,19 contract workers, a memorandum of settlement was signed between the management of Celebi (a firm providing ground and cargo handling services), DIAL, and their contract workers represented by the Airport Employees Union in New Delhi.

Each worker shall receive an amount of Rs 58,400 and the total amount disbursed among the workers this year will be Rs 6,08,41,600, the ministry stated.
