Penalty under the Act: It is important for employers to understand the Apprentices Act 1961 and to ensure that they are in compliance with the Act. Failure to comply with the Apprentices Act 1961 can result in serious penalties, including fines, imprisonment, and/or the cancellation of the employer’s registration.

And in the current instance: You are aware that presently a candidate can join as Apprentice under National Apprenticeship Scheme (NATS) within 3 years from the date of passing the qualifying examination.  This criterion was adopted based on a recommendation made by Central Apprenticeship Council in its 26th meeting held on 29/11/1995.

For providing the benefit of the Scheme to more students especially those from remote and backward areas, it has been decided to relax the eligibility criteria for registering Degree/Diploma pass outs passing the qualifying examination and date of joining the apprenticeship training.

This will be applicable from the date of this letter. You are requested to widely publicize the relaxation amongst all stakeholders.

Apprentice Scheme – Relaxing The Eligibility Criteria for Registering Within 5 Years from The Date of Passing

The Government of India Has Issued Circular Dated 12th June 2023 Relaxing The Eligibility Criteria for Registering Degree / Diploma Pass Outs as an Apprentice Under the National Apprentices Scheme (Nats) Within 5 Years from The Date of Passing of Qualifying Examination.

Now the Government of India has decided to relax the eligibility criteria for registering Degree / Diploma pass outs as an Apprentices under NATS from 3 years to 5 years from the date of passing the qualifying examination and date of joining the apprenticeship training.

 

National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme 2023

By realizing the need for apprenticeship training the Government of India has launched a National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme in order to boost apprenticeship training. Under this scheme, the government is going to share the cost of training with the establishments under apprenticeship programs so apprenticeship training can be boosted. The cost of basic training with basic training providers will be shared by the government. This basic training cost will be limited to Rs 7500 for a period of 500 hours/3 months. Under the scheme, 25% of the prescribed stipend up to a maximum limit of 1500 per month per apprentice will be shared by the government with the employers.

It has to be noted that the stipend support under the NAPS would not be given during the basic training period for fresher apprentices. Under this scheme, all the categories of apprentices who are not covered under the scheme will be covered.

 

About NAPS Apprenticeship

Apprenticeship is a type of training that is provided to the manpower in order to enhance their skills. This training will be provided in the industry by utilizing the facilities that are available in the industry. Under apprenticeship, basic training and on-the-job training are provided. The Government of India has launched the Apprenticeship act, of 1961 for promoting apprenticeship training. The ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship is responsible for the implementation of this act. With the help of apprenticeship training, efficient and skilled manpower will develop with the help of training facilities available in establishments. With the help of this program, no extra burden requires to set up training infrastructure. All those people who undergo apprenticeship training can easily adapt to the industrial environment.
