Penalty under the Act: It is important for employers to understand the Apprentices Act 1961 and to ensure that they are in compliance with the Act. Failure to comply with the Apprentices Act 1961 can result in serious penalties, including fines, imprisonment, and/or the cancellation of the employer’s registration.

Type: Gazette of Puducherry No.45 dated 25-04-2023 published the order No. 7789/DoT/ATS/LAB/GAZ/2023/167 dated 18-04-2023 of the Labour Department, Puducherry to be read with this order No. 7789/DOT/ATS/LAB/GAZ/2023/217 dated 2nd May 2023
Pertains to: All the Establishments/Offices covered under the Apprenticeship Act 1961 are hereby directed to implement the said order immediately without fail.
Note: (i) Non-payment of stipulated minimum rate of stipend is a violation under sub section (1) & (2) of Section 13 of Apprenticeship Act 1961.
(ii) Employer contravenes the provisions of this Act relating to the number of apprentices which he is required to engage under the sub section (1), (l A) and under sub section (2) of section 30 of the Apprenticeship Act, 1961 shall be penalized with fine.
